The Anatomy of Results
by On June 21, 2012

This TEDx presentation was released several days ago and is already one of the most viewed new TED talks on the internet today.

Eric Plantenberg breaks down the Anatomy of Results and highlights why some people are able to consistently create terrific results, and why most people do not.

If you are not familiar with – here is a brief overview of their mission as posted on their website.

Our mission: Spreading ideas.

We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives, and ultimately, the world. So we’re building here a clearinghouse that offers free knowledge and inspiration from the world’s most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other. This site, launched in April 2007, is an ever-evolving work in progress, and you’re an important part of it.

At Freedom Personal Development, we are thrilled to promote as we believe that ultimately we share the same purpose: to deliver the Freedom to Choose. Good ideas make that possible. Congratulations to Freedom Personal Development president, Eric Plantenberg, for being invited to share his ideas along side of the planet’s “most inspired thinkers.”

Please post your comments about his talk on YouTube or this blog.

Radical Mental Shift
by On November 11, 2010

I have long been fascinated by how my mental preparation has preceded specific results.

If I visualize an event going smoothly, it always goes better than if I go into it to “dominate” or “kick-butt.”

If you’ve ever noticed that your mental approach to a situation affects your results, you–like me–may find the following video enlightening.

The video is an Englishman who swam at the North Pole in 29-degree water (below freezing) for 1 km and at a newly formed lake (from a melted glacier) on Mt. Everest at 17,388 feet (5300 m), which is higher than any continental U.S. peak.

Part of his talk is on climate change, but the majority of his talk is on the important lesson that he shares on the radical mental shift that he had to make to complete his mission.

On first attempt, he nearly drowned swimming at the altitude. In order to complete his swim, he had to learn from his Sherpas how to change his entire approach to swimming across this lake: He had to switch from aggressive and “hyped” up to “humble” and accepting. Watch this and then continue reading (it is only 9 minutes long).

The idea of ”what mindset do I need to be in for this task” is a fascinating one. I think it is something that we can constantly monitor as we have so many different tasks to accomplish each day.

It is also a great reminder that a “Mind made up is the most powerful force on the planet.” Truly profound. My question to you is this:

What have you made up your mind about?

Video – Inspirational "IF" Poem
by On September 24, 2010

In this video, Rudyard Kipling’s inspirational poem, If , is read by tennis great Roger Federer. The poem gives lessons on how to live life, believe in yourself, act with dignity and be a leader. Words to the poem below.

If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, but make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, or, being lied about, don’t deal in sinew to serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you except the Will which says to them: “Hold on”;

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, or walk with kings, nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you; If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute with sixty seconds’ worth of distance run
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, and, which is more, you’ll be a Man my son.

What are affirmations? According to Mark victor Hansen, they are the words you say to yourself, words others say to you, or images you think about, act upon or act upon you. Whether they are good or bad, they will have an affect on you and he has some great stories that illustrate this.

Working Smarter AND Harder (plus words of wisdom from Will Smith)
by On September 9, 2010

Eric PlantenbergUnderstanding the role that your talents and skills play in your career is foundational for your personal improvement.

In the realm of personal development, there is an incredible focus on working smarter not harder. While that is a concept that I have found incredibly valuable in countless scenarios in the past 20 years, I believe that it is only half of the equation.

What many people who are ‘selling’ the work smarter not harder ideology omit is that the AND principle can be found at the core of almost every Elite performance. What I mean by that is that when you look at the best of the best in any field, they are working smarter AND harder to create their Elite results.

When a person slumps… and I’ve never met anyone who hasn’t, I would suggest that the quickest fix is to tighten your focus, put your head down, and get to work. Strategizing the most effective way, planning and working Smarter are all exceptional ideas once you have momentum on your side.

I was incredibly inspired by a short video of Will Smith where he points out what he anchors to in his quest for greatness. Here are a couple of quotes that stood out for me:

“Greatness is something that truly exists in all of us.”
“Don’t you ever tell me there is something that you can’t do.”
“I’m going to lay this (one) brick as perfectly as it can be laid.”

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome.

I love how these quotes are congruent for such a long time in Will’s life. It really struck me how consistent his message is from early in his life through the present. I also love how Will borrowed some great material from FPD talking about Talents and Skills!

After watching this… I’d love to know what stood out for you. What can you take from this post and Will’s Wisdom to support your achievement of your goals?
