Believe and You Can Achieve
by On April 24, 2008

Blaine HalversonAs a speaker, I often hear people express their disbelief in developing new skills or achieving some goal. It happens for two reasons:

1. Either the person doesn’t believe something is possible or
2. They don’t believe they can do it.

In this blog post I want to dispel these two self doubting trains of thought and introduce two new ways of approaching these issues to that you can achieve your dreams, no matter how big they are.

Believe it is Possible

At times in history, common sense seems to indicate to mankind that something could not be done. Columbus couldn’t get to the East by sailing West. The Wright Brothers couldn’t get mankind airborne and Lindbergh couldn’t fly across the Atlantic. Actually, for thousands of years nobody believed it was possible for a human to run a mile in less than 4 minutes. Then a man named Roger Bannister proved common sense wrong. And within a year of his concept shattering run, 37 more runners had accomplished the feat. The next year, 300 more did it. Now at a World Class Track Event, it is not uncommon for the last place runner to do what was once considered impossible for thousands of years.

Napoleon Hill wrote, ‘whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.’ Chances are in your life, whatever it is you would like to do has been done before. Even if it hasn’t, it’s still possible.

Believe YOU Can Do It

Just about everyone I meet who learns I teach memory training workshops says, ‘I could really use that,’ yet when given the opportunity to take a course like ours, they will often indicate they don’t believe they can do it. They say things like, ‘I’m just really bad about remembering names,’ or, ‘you don’t understand, I just have a terrible memory.’ In other words, I know it can be done, just not by me.

The human brain is a remarkable computer and one which we program ourselves. And the limits existing in our minds are self-imposed. In fact, a person saying something like, ‘I’m must really bad with names,’ is successfully programming his brain, but he is successfully programming it to be bad a names.

There is a common expression with regards to success: Fake it till you make it. You might not completely believe your capable of learning something, but if you program you mind with believing statements, you will grow your self-believe.

So remember, whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve. And that goes for your mind too. Just tell yourself this. I t can be done and I will do it.

How could you apply this technique of mental programming to your life? Post a comment below.

I really appreciate this post Blaine. Now that I am aware, when I catch myself “disbeliving in me” I turn it around. Simply put by my 6 year old daughter, “if you tell yourself you can’t, you can’t and if you tell yourself you can, you can.”

thank you for reminding me these two sentences.
“Fake it till you make it” and “Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”
I really needed that today.I will write it on my bulletin board and it will remind me of the attitude I need to be successful.
